Becoming a LEMI mentor is really quite simple. There are four simple steps.
1 - Have the desire to get a great Liberal Arts Education.
2 - Register for one of the 3 day intensive trainings offered by LEMI.
3 - Attend the chosen training.
4 - Offer a class to your community and teach the course you were trained for for one year.
The ancient art of mentoring has been a useful tool throughout the ages. Socrates mentored Plato. Plato mentored Aristotle and so forth. These great teachers were so more than teachers. They were mentors. At this point you are asking yourself, "What's the difference and What's the big deal?"
What's the difference?
Teachers teach, profess, administer tests and hand out grades. Mentors teach, profess, model, discuss, enter into debate, encourage trying and expect failure. All great teachers were and are great because they were and are mentors as well as teachers.
Today, in the modern age of industrialized nations, we have lost the need for mentoring. We have demanded efficiency, standards and speed. We don't have time nor frankly the money for artisans to handcraft everything. Unfortunately, the artisan has lost his place if he can not easily duplicate and mass produce his creation.
